Navigate: Week Two On Farm

The Saskatchewan food and agriculture system is huge and we have so much to share with our Navigate participants!

On Monday they toured the Canadian Light Source Inc. / Centre canadien de rayonnement synchrotron hosted by Chithra Karunakaran. She explained how electrons are made and excelerated along with the uses of the synchrotron for agricultural research.

They then toured the the University of Saskatchewan Insect Research Facility where Sean Prager showed them the containment labs and talked about how research capabilities and partnerships are formed.

They ended the morning with a tour at the Rayner Dairy Research Facility. Masters student Christina toured the Navigate participants through the barn, viewed the robotic milking parlour from the "cow walk" and checked out the interactive food system exhibit.

The afternoon consisted of curated meetings with industry experts.

On Monday evening we hosted a "Ask a Farmer" social where out Navigate participants were able to chat with farmers about their companies and about Saskatchewan farms. It was a great evening with lots of networking.

Tuesday brought the first day of Ag in Motion! The participants each had time slotted to spend in the booth in the FCC / FAC tent chatting with interested farmers and other ag companies. Tiffany Wood did demontrations of her Dyneval Dynescan machine during the day!

At 2:30 along with Affinity Credit Union and Ag-West Bio we supported the Sprouting Success event with Shaun Haney and Tom Wolf speaking about the advancements in spraying. This was followed by a quick introduction of our Navigate participants to the crowd with carnival games after.

The evening we attended the NutrienSTARS Field of Stars event! It was great to see the well supported event for such a wonderful cause.

Andrei Grespan and Federico Guelpa were vying for best cowboy on the roping horse.

Wednesday brought another day at Ag in Motion where the companies used their time to network with industry experts and potential consumers. The Navigate participants attended the Sask Young Ag Cultivating Connections event where they connected with local industry members and young farmers.

Thursday the Navigate participants had another day of curated meetings, and we ended the day with a supper at Stoked and heated game of bowling!

The GAAP team throughly enjoyed hosting these five amazing companies! They were open to learning about the Canadian agriculture industry and finding out how their product may work here.
